What is Trichology?
Trichology is the specialized science of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair. Clinical Trichology is the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the human hair and scalp. The medical terminology for hair loss is alopecia. There are many reasons why a person will begin to experience hair loss. The cause may be an inherited condition, hormonal, nutritional, physiological, autoimmune, psychological, or environmental, the taking of certain medication, or any combination of these.
Some hair loss problems may be temporary and self-correcting while others are corrected with nutritional/hormonal interventions. Conditions such as genetic thinning can be stabilized but not cured – while others cause permanent hair loss due to follicle destruction.
As Trichologist, we adopt a holistic approach to the problem of hair loss and examine your general health, family history, nutrition, lifestyle and other relevant factors. A microscopic examination of the
hair might be required to aid in the diagnosis of the problem.
